Faith-Based Counseling in Libertyville, IL

Incorporating Principles of Faith into Therapy

Research has indicated that happiness is often contributed to transcendent experience, or fostering meaning outside of ourselves. As a Christian, it was important for me to understand how to marry the principles of my faith to the principles of Mental Health Counseling. This is why I pursued an extended counseling program at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Here I was taught evidenced based therapeutic practice as well as challenged to explore how to integrate faith into my work.

Being sensitive to the fact that many have been hurt by the Church as a whole, or by individuals under the guise of the faith, I chose to open a practice that is focused on clinical counseling and evidenced based treatments rather than Christian Counseling specifically. However, for those individuals who wish to explore Biblical or Spiritual principles and wrestle with difficult decisions and perspectives, I welcome the opportunity to explore alongside you the implications of your beliefs and values. It has not been my experience that the therapeutic work of Schema Therapy is in any way at odds with the Christian faith and can be beneficial for healing and growth regardless of incorporation of faith or spirituality. That said, sometimes spirituality and therapy combined can be the most powerful way to heal. I welcome your preferences as to whether or not to include spirituality conversations in your therapy.
